Singing With the Autumn Leaves
Autumn is such a fun season for me and my little one, as the changes are so visible and tactile. Don’t forget to enjoy the simple things that autumn has to offer:
- Collect leaves. Look at the variety of sizes, styles, and colours. Sarah has LOTS of fun activity ideas HERE
- Jump in puddles!
- Fly a kite! You can even make your own with string, a paper bag and some streamers
I have added some of my favourite autumn songs. Each song can be used in different ways, including just singing them as you’re sitting looking at your natural surroundings.
Journey of the Leaves
A beautiful song for story telling!
“Come away” sang the river
To the leaves on a tree
“Let me take you a journey
if the world you would see”
So the leaves, gently falling
From the tree on the shore
Flowed away on the river
To come home nevermore

Falling Leaves
This is a great song to exposure children to a minor key (darker mood)
Yellow, red and brown,
Gently falling down
Autumn leaves come floating
Slowly to the ground

Apple Tree
This is a simple song in that it only uses a limited number of music notes. This makes it easier for little ones to remember and sing independently
Apple tree, apple tree
Will your apples fall on me?
I won’t scream and I won’t shout
If your apples knock me out

Autumn Comes
A calm and peaceful song, which could be used as a lullaby
Autumn comes, the summer is past,
Winter will come too soon.
Stars will shine clearer, skies seem nearer,
Under the Harvest Moon.
Autumn comes, but let us be glad.
Singing an autumn tune,
Hearts will be lighter, nights be brighter.
Under the Harvest Moon.

Like a Leaf or Feather
A fun movement song. Try whirling and twirling until you’re so dizzy you fall down!
Like a leaf or feather,
In the windy, windy weather
We will whirl around, and twirl around
And all fall down together
