DIY Band

As the weather gets colder and our noses get runnier, you might find that a trip to the park might not always be appealing for you as an adult. Here’s an indoor activity perfect for any weather that both you and the kids will love…

DIY Band

1. Building your band
Have fun creating some make-shift instruments (or use real ones if you have them)

Gather anything that you can make noise with!

Some ideas include:

  • Pots and pans drum kit

  • Microphone hairbrush

  • Rice container shakers

  • Ironing board piano

Get creative with these, you can go as simple as you’d like or make it a craft activity!

Encourage your little one to experiment with different combinations of your instruments to create varying sounds. Join the fun and show them lots of different ways to make sounds!

2. Rehearsal
Play a familiar nursery rhyme or children's song (or any song you and your child love!) on a smartphone or portable speaker while you practise keeping the beat together. Have fun with this and add some dance moves.

Stuck for inspiration? Try these tracks:

*I encourage you to get as many band members together as possible. It’s a great activity for a play date or with family members and siblings. The more musicians the better!

3. Performance (optional of course)

If the band is ready and you have had some fun in rehearsal, put on a show, whether it’s a short little video or performing for others in the household. You can incorporate some dress-ups and dance moves and even make tickets for your audience!
